Smokey update I
So progress has been made on the GREY 1984 HONDA ACCORD, 5 SPEED, 4 DOOR car of mine (happy?). Smokey is running happier of late...
I used mid-grade gas on my first fill--seemed like the old stuff was causing some idling problems. Smokey has been running on synthetic oil for a while, which means I should be doing well on that end.
Smokey is vacuumed!
Smokey has new seat and steering wheel covers--and a little scent to cover...um, the other smell.
The sound system will be upgraded over the next week if all goes well and the crick don't rise.
Revised list of future Smokey projects:

Figure out SOME WAY of rigging a cup holder (I mean REALLY!)
New floor mats...
Clean out door with wasp nest
Drive like an old man (still to be attempted, much less mastered)
Some bodywork might be in order...those rust holes aren't pretty--they'll just get bigger--maybe then it will finally be worth waxing like my "old" car.

I know it's kind of sad to put so much surface TLC into a 21-year-old contraption, but this is just my way of making it livable—I already enjoy my commute more by many degrees (now if I could just get that CD player in…)

You have a wasp nest in your car! Really Mark you should fix that. It could become painful.
Wise choice for for a car(Asuming the internals are all in good working order, which they seem to be.) And if you're not TOO concerned with perfect looks, body work isn't really that hard to do your self. As for the ilding rough on 87 octain, I'm going through all kinds of drivability problems in college right now, so I might be able to help you out there. I would need some more information though.
Mike: I'm pretty sure I will be going back down to normal grade gas...this was just to help clear out the aging gas that was in already. I'm also planning on putting in some additives--to help with the cleaning process.
Oh yes, Now I can mentaly picure your car the details help a lot. I may have already forgot what I read but. You said that the first time you fueled up you used mid grade fuel and that helped you idle problem. i could also be that the fuel that was originaly in the car was old (Was the car being driven when you got it or had it been sitting for a while), old gas alone can cause some runing problems. easily solve with fresh gas.

My car is cupholderless as well, but when I bought it from my friend, he seriously and sincerely offered my the thick roll of duct tape that had served him well in that capacity. It helps that there's a large horizontal panel surrounding my gearshift that makes an excellent base for the tape... perhaps the same idea would work in Smokey? -Beth Bailey
Hmmm. That cupholder's got me thinking. I ought to at least try something for my car.
Cup holders... so much potential. As for adatives in your gas, be VERY careful. Most, if not all, do more harm than good. Most technitions recomend a injector flush. Don't know about a carborated engine though. Maybe I will get back to you on that.
Wonderful news Mark! Sounds like you and Smokey are on a roll. Speaking of rolls I think the duct tape idea might not be bad, at least you would be keeping with the new gray color scheme. LOL You said it was a 5 speed? standard transmission? Sorry I missed you the other night. Mom is still not driving so I hadn't made it over but then I was out with Kristi and Co. and Dan was driving so I took the opportunity of a ride and came by. Would have prefered to see you...wasn't trying to sneak it off into the night!
The cup holder problem is really irksome... Beth, believe it or not, I actually have a big roll of duct tape in my trunk right this minute...but I don't know about that because I don't even have flat surfaces down low...except...well, except the surfaces WAY down low. It's worth taking a 7th look.
You are all making me laugh. Mike, you needn't worry--what goes into the car will find plenty of peer review by the panel of in-house experts.
Well at least you don't have cup holders like mine. They are kind of worthless.
So are mine, My 10 cd changer controls make it impractical to in any thing bigger than a can mountain dew. But I don't drink while I drive any ways, so I don't care.
